A new name, a new website and a clearer description of what we do. A note on the thinking behind the change.

When we started, AVAN Studios described us well. We produced content, managed social channels and helped premium brands appear with care wherever their audiences spent time. Clients stayed, mandates grew, and the questions we were asked began to change. How should we be positioned before we open? What should our founder say on LinkedIn, and what should she leave unsaid? Which partner would strengthen our reputation, and which one would dilute it?

These are questions about perception: how a brand is read, felt and remembered. Over time, most of our work moved there. Our name stayed behind.

Why labels matter

Wittgenstein observed that the limits of our language mark the limits of our world. Categories work in much the same way in business. The moment someone calls you an agency, they know what to compare you with, what to expect and roughly what to pay. The label does the thinking for them.

Agency, creative studio, service provider: none of these described what we do. An agency is often judged by its output, a studio by its aesthetic, a service provider by its price. Our clients judge us by something harder to count: whether their brand is seen the way it deserves to be seen, consistently, over years.

So we named our own category. AVAN is a holistic brand boutique.

What holistic means to us

An audience experiences one brand across many moments. Someone discovers a property on Instagram, visits the website a week later, reads an interview with the founder and eventually sits across from them at a private dinner. Each of these moments either confirms the impression the others made or quietly contradicts it.

Holistic means that these moments share a clear purpose. We connect four disciplines to achieve this: strategy, conception, execution and consulting. Positioning guides the creative work, and the results of that work inform the next decision. Beneath them sit six service pillars, from brand strategy and identity to curated engagements such as peer conversations and invitation-only evenings. Few clients need all of them at once. What they need is a partner who sees how they relate to one another.

What boutique means to us

Boutique describes a size we have chosen deliberately. We work with a curated circle of clients in property, hospitality and lifestyle. Vanessa and Andrea, our founders, are personally involved in every mandate, supported by a small, experienced team. Nobody meets a founder at the pitch and a junior on the account afterwards.

It also describes a particular kind of care. We think like a concierge: we get to know the person, read the situation and bring the next step before it is asked for. Sometimes that is a strategic observation beyond the brief. Sometimes it is an introduction that makes sense for both sides. Occasionally it is a spontaneous lunch in Geneva, because some conversations are better held in person.

AVAN, without the Studios

Removing a word from a name looks like a small change. For us, it marks the moment the company stopped being defined by a format. AVAN no longer describes a studio that produces things. It describes a partner that shapes how brands are perceived and helps them act on that perception.

The line accompanying our name points at our clients rather than at us: Shaping how the world sees you. Visibility is easy to buy and quick to fade. Perception is built slowly, through consistency, and it is the part of a brand that remains when nobody is watching.

What stays the same

The people, the standards and the way we work. Quality is our baseline rather than a feature. We prefer depth to speed and consistency to intensity. And we still believe the best ideas are the ones that feel right and also work, which is why creative intuition and analytical rigour share the table in every project we take on.

What has changed is that we now say it plainly. If you are wondering whether this way of working suits your next chapter, we would be glad to hear about your ambition.
